Of Ursula—and her urghly uncle

Ursula Upton,
urchin of urban Ulster—
unbroken, unapologetic, undersold,
ukelelist of undamped enthUsiasm—
was the underling of her Uncle Ulysses.

One ugly, ugly day,
uliginous Uncle Ulysses—
uncouth, unfair, ungrateful,
underbred and an unbeliever—
up and unbosomed Ursula—urgh!

Unbridling her umbrage, Ursula of Ulster—
undefeated, ululating—
usurped her uncle,
and, assUming all usufruct—
left him nought but ullage.

Come back for tomorrow’s V poem!

  1. Words I learned: usufruct = The legal right to use and derive profit or benefit from property that belongs to another person

ullage = the empty space between the cork and the top of the wine (top word!)

  2. When I met my first wife, an Australian, in England, I took her to a place in the North where I grew up until I was about 8 years old. She made a comment that I hadn’t really considered much before then, that England was dull, brown, grey and ugly! It wasn’t until getting more outside the country that I started to understand what she meant. The picture you’ve used here reminds me of this very much.
