Give me more time in a tree

By guest poet William Delaat from Primitive Poetry

Give me more
Time in a tree
Give me some strength
To get out of bed.
The two, one in the same.
Childlike wonder,
Which kills ennui
Which itself has rotted
The roots of the tree.
That energy which is redirected
From the climb to the felling.
The trimming of branches,
Now a chore which calls.
Requiring sacrifice
As all things do.
The tree breathes easier
Knowing it holds less weight
Although my lungs,
Become much heavier,
As they gasp from work.
Yet the tree gives,
Yet the tree takes away.
It gives unspoiled air,
Which lungs need.
It takes nutrients from dirt,
Which I will someday give.

So give me more time in a tree.
Whether it be climbing or trimming.
Give me much more time in the tree.
In this life, with joy brimming.
