Episode 20

Getting out to the 11th had been a nightmare. Even the private detective that Brandon De Bras was paying to find his daisy refused to walk these streets – so Brandon had to come himself. 

The taxi would only drop the media magnate several blocks away – hence the need for walking. With nary a hoverboard in sight, The Don picked his way through this damned abandoned arrondissement, with its cars on fire and its film of waste on the streets. 

But how could he find her – his delicate flower, Marguerite? 

The word on the street said there was a warehouse – the former offices of the ill-fated journal Charlie Hebdo – and that it was full of drug addicts and malcontents. 

Bad things happened there – but it was the last place Marguerite had been seen. His best – and only – lead. 

What would a famed journaliste of Marguerite’s standing be doing in such a place? 

But it’s exactly because she’s a great journaliste, he thought. 

No lack of taxis – no fear of the criminal element – could ever keep Marg from a story.

What with the disappearance of Solomon, and the arrest of Javier, there was a story here – no question. What of the strange, white dust–laced beanbag baby dropped before their very feet outside the restaurant? And the mystery of where all of Paris’s top models had gone.

Brandon had his best journalistes on the job, plus the private detective – and every clue had led each one of them here. Perhaps all these strange happenings were linked, and his daisy was following the chain…
