A Longette Lite compiled by Karuna Mistry
Blackness; a lackness, absence of brightness, bleakness, absolute white-less
to walk in nothingness, stalk in stealthness, run in blindness, dark chasm nonetheless
shapeless strides more or less, in quickness, fitness — hides fatness, possess finesse
coolness, lack tackiness, hack into systems with hasteness — cyber sabotage no less
a blackened madness, bleak mess, spiral into darkness, regret with sadness
infamous, shameless, ruthless maleness or ruth-femaleness; unadulterated badness
——Blacklisted & Anonymous
Whiteness; a brightness and lightness, heavy weightless in bright spaces–
not outer spaceness, which is shapeless, colourless and tasteless
unlike the salt, sugar and carbness — else, all is plainness, blandness
as if tongueless, when cats catch one’s taste buds, leaves one speechless … blankness
nine lives race through the end-of-the-tunnel to reach oneness
as if anaesthetised and painless, experience euphoria and greatness
arrive at pearly gates, maskless, egoless — not anonymous
to grace God in fearlessness with the salve of love in plain sightness
associate with the likes of Buddha and Jesus
——Whitelisted & Obvious
Greyness; a haziness, blurriness, cloudiness, fogginess
neither here or there mistiness, droplets in the air wetness
feeling grayness; not happiness or gayness, prideless dullness
prizeless — not priceless, to be precise — lest a laziness strikes us
by the shades of un-mystiqueness, a non-mysterious fadeness
a lulled colour spectrum between two absolutes no less
made famous by that 50/50 movie nonetheless
——Gray, Greyer & Grayness
Brownness; a groundness and earthiness — clay, soil, mud, rock groundmass
spherical all-roundness, all around us, orbit in spaceness
groundless gravity boundless Earth’s brownness is
terra firmness, reliant, relentless hardness
between space darkness and sun’s brightness — not dark, nor bright
but middle ground no less — untethered colourist motives frown less
with all-round bareness and bearness; brawn-to-braun brownness
——Brownlisted & Balanceness
Blackness is colourless and brightless
Whiteness is all-colour in lightness
Greyness is nondescriptness but
Brownness belongs to ourness

Gosh, I’m not even fully sure how it sounds spoken aloud! Give me a day or two? (Else nudge me by Friday as my evenings are already filled)

Big congratulations Karuna on your awesome Longette Lite! Number 4 of all time. I’m looking at doing tshirt designs for redbubble or something…you can have one that says something like “I was one of the first people to write a longette” : )

LOL! You should have your website address on there too!

I love “heavy weightlessness in bright space” and your critique of whiteness in general so much

Gaia …an inspirational Longette Lite idea?

good one! I’d like to see your Longette proper, too! Number 4 slot is still open for that…for now! it’s taking off suddenly

the Gaia idea is a multi author collab work maybe…with you, me, Jessica Perini…who else? One per stanza maybe (so 5 in all)

A multiple author collaboration sounds perfect! One stanza each is doable… is everyone else in? Catherin, what if you do a group email to see who’s in (or reach out individually) and then proceed from there? Timewise, I would need a few days to even get started though, realistically into the month of Feb to write…

Fabulous audio by the poet Karuna Mistry himself, just added!

The audio really brings out the assonance and alliteration so beautifully Karuna! I so appreciate this piece

I’m just glad I got to pronounce every word clearly, in a good paced meter, and for such a long piece, without making word slips. One mistake and d’oh! Start again from the top!

Yes that would be rough! I usually don’t mind a slip or two these days

For recordings, it’s there forever… one has to be a bit of a perfectionist.
I guess for written poetry too… heh

It doesn’t have to be there forever though…we can always re-record! and edit the poetry later!
