A poem for trying times

Today I’d like to share the poem, ‘First Writing Since’, written and read by Palestinian American woman Suheir Hammad for her brothers, in response to the 9/11 plane-jackings that hit the twin towers in NYC and also the Pentagon.

With the escalation of genocide in the Middle East, and a recent anti-Semitic gun massacre in Bondi, Sydney (where I am today), the piece remains all-too relevant, and a friend brought it to my attention. It’s painful and beautiful. Thank you Suheir! (And Andrew/Dani, for sharing.)
