Since I was about 8, I’ve wanted to be a writer—preferably a famous novelist!
Well now I’m 50—and still not famous!—but most days I do practise writing and try to improve my skills.
I’m not writing novels (not yet!), but I do engage in serial collaborative fiction now and then with my pals—which is so fun. (We’re planning to blog some of that work soon, so stay tuned.)
This week, I upgraded my WordPress account and added a Tip Jar!
So, if you have any burning feedback you’d love to give me, now’s your chance! It might be a hint to help me write better, something you’d like to see me write about, or even a collaboration idea…
And, thanks to the Tip Jar, it’s now also possible to virtually ‘chuck some coins in my flute case’. I’ll use any and all funds received towards my ongoing creative development : )
Above all, thank you for reading my work. It means a lot. And to all my wonderful guest poets: you rock! I hope to be able to tip you some day!

you want to know how to write? I suggest two short story classics that still knock me out: Miranda July’s ‘Roy Spivey’ and Alice Munro’s ‘The Bear Came Over the Mountain’, both widely anthologized and both ‘consumed’ within 10 minutes. Savor the writing, the rhythms of sentences, the language itself, the narrative drive. —

I love that both your suggestions are women writers, too. Canadian women writers are very cool. Atwood, Proulx come to mind

yes. I love all things Annie Proulx, especially her short stories; is she still writing, I wonder? she is getting on, but that should be even more reason to write —

Looks like she’s switched to non-fiction environmental activism for peat bogs, which I absolutely respect and admire…last book to date was on that, in 2022. I just ordered some books and found a second-hand copy of her stories about Wyoming! Where I live! (different one lol) looking fwd to receiving
