Cool air pummels my shoulder
Static sound of patchy post-rain drips
Mochi curls on my lap, soft, alert,
head on backwards
Cranes to watch me type
Plop. Another cat jumps down, behind me
Raindrops strung along the Hills Hoist:
dew on a man-made spiderweb
Birds chime from middle distance
Laughing buddha half obscured by a cord
Farmer’s market jam on tongue
White noise from tower fan,
beep and fading drone when it turns off
Influx of humid, tepid air
Frames of glasses, visible around eyes, crooked
Anticipation of first tattoo
Dry eyes from a too-early morning
Luxurious coat of cat hair
on office chair—months of feline naps
while the human bed-rotted
Itch behind my thigh
Mochi’s upside-down head
seeks chin scratches
Paw, claws half out,
rests over typing wrist;
now, her chin too
Isn’t the movement
bothersome?
Clatter-clash of turkey on colourbond fence;
makes its way into the yard
Ivy, two paws on chair’s edge, anxious face,
calculates remaining space
Retreats, when Mochi makes eye contact
Random stab of pain from right breast,
site of biopsy by staple gun;
state of mind, back then.
