eight late-summer haiku

house-fly on lily pad
wind dimples the water
minnow darts

*

sun intensifies
pond clouds pass
cats scrap

*

commelina climbs
dead orchids
geranium falters

*

azolla roots splay
water-snail drifts
clouds float north

*

ruderal petty spurge
moss on the damp course
ants ferry their eggs

*

droning air
blowflies flock to manure
breeze freshens

*

camellia in bud
bees on the basil
subterranean drain sounds

*

snail grazes
yellow lily pad
tiny faecal curls
