Brandon did not realise that, in fact, the whole warehouse scenario hid …
an elaborate trap.
His daisy? The bait.
And Brandon – gullible Brandon – had walked heart-first into that trap.

Marguerite and Celeste stepped outside, but before they’d gone even a few metres from the warehouse door, they heard a yell from further down the street.
They’d been talking – about what to do with all those supermodels, who were still ranging within the warehouse behind them, in their drug fog.
Should Marg and Celeste first contact the police (Celeste’s co-workers)? Or should they themselves attempt to lead the beautiful ones through the streets to safety – perhaps in some kind of nursery-school daisy-chain formation, hand-in-hand?
But the distressed yells of a man, seeming to emerge from one of the nearby warehouses, interrupted their thoughts.
“Merde, Celeste! Now what?” Marg wanted to know. “Do we save the models first – or ‘elp cet mec bruyante?”
Celeste’s police training kicked in. They should help the drowning man first, her gut said. The models, in a happy fug, would be fine for now.
But how to locate Mr Shouty-Screamy? The abandoned street was rife with confusing echoes.
As the sisters swivelled their heads frantically, trying to home in on the anguished cries, a glint of light in a nearby window caught Celeste’s eye.
“There!”
It was that man! The one with a near-perfect smile – and that single flawed chip in the front tooth. Jambeau!
But Jam, far from crying out, looked to be laughing like the devil himself.
The cry came from behind Jam.
“Mon dieu! Non!” Marguerite found herself crying out, weakly, as she spotted Brandon.
He was the one, she now realised, who would finally break her impatience against men.
Maybe even … her heart creaked open as she felt around for emotion …
