Cheers for New Year’s, 2026

A collaboration by Elijah Astute
and Catherin J Pascal Dunk1

Send me a beer
for New Year’s.

Let us say cheers,
from far and from near.

From Nakivale to Sydney,
Ireland to USA.

Raise (and join) your voices,
clink (and wear) your glasses.

Without being Silent
in Complicity,

Listen and also Hear,
Look and also See.

A world united, wild and free!
From Nakivale streets to global vibes.
Let us celebrate, all tribes!

We cheers to love, and dreams anew!
So here’s to you, and here’s to me,
Cheers to new beginnings, wild and free!

Let’s raise our glasses high and bright,
Happy New Year, Uganda, and the world in sight!

  1. Elijah (in Nakivale, Uganda) wrote the first stanza and the last 3 stanzas. Catherin (near Sydney, Australia) wrote the parts in italic. ↩︎
