September 19th every year is Talk Like a Pirate Day, and I hope you have a good one! Arrr matey! I wrote this poem back in February with an extended pirate metaphor, and I’ve now refreshed the font AND the audio! for TLP Day. Enjoy it landlubber—or do nae do so, at yer peril!
Leeching off Country
I want Adiantum, so
my boots embark
on Berry’s Head reserve—
where lianas deck the privet
and the lithe lantana swells.
Maidenhead sighted,
I sword the warm dark soil—
ritual bride theft—
finger and wrap
her netherparts.
Warding off Country,
I pluck some noxious herbs.
Luft the plunder home
with three sloshed leeches—
peg, hook, and crook—
enacting the blood tax.
