I am not bogus, phony, false—
but rather,
too honest!
All ye shall know
my fleet thoughts, feelings,
candid whims.
Veracity trumps mendacity, yet
is oversharing kind?
Does it liberate the mind?
A spider monkey swinging wild,
vicarious trauma spreads—
a truth that bites.

Well, I’d much rather hear a blunt truth than some well-intentioned prevarication.

I’m so glad you found us and linked up, Catherin. Your opening line in the first person is an effective hook, and the list of three, ‘bogus, phony, false’ already alerts the reader – is this totally honest? I also like the thoughts on oversharing.

Your welcome, Catherin. How was your poem received at the poetry night? Did you know that we do a reading on Google Meet once a month. We have one this coming Saturday, if you’d like to join us. The link will be on the Open Link Night prompt on Thursday.

It was good, I first told them what a quadrille was and they were interested to learn that. I’m pretty busy this weekend but I’d like to join sometime!

Indeed, that balance between kindness and frankness is the hardest one.

I’ve been told I’m “too honest”. I don’t believe there is such a thing.
