When you’re face blind (as I am)
all men (sorry!) look the same.
I need me a quirk, a feature—
stubble, side-burns, balding, long hair,
hatted; some kinda style, or aesthetic—
a Just Noticeable Difference.1
*
When I saw you the fifth time,
time spun.
Your sweet face
zeroed into focus.
Possible futures flashed forward, unwound
to middle distance.
Here was a man
I could love.
And was hungry
to touch.

the love went wrong again by now…captured in future poems…but maybe one day someone new won’t be freaked out by my public (and too early) displays of literary affection and angst!
