I’m excited to let you know that another two of my poems are appearing on Edge of Humanity online magazine this month! It helps bring them to a wider audience than I can currently reach on my own. Thanks Joelcy!
Monet’s Drain is the first to appear. In honour of the occasion, I’ve added some background to the poem (below), and an audio recording of me reading it (on the original post).
I wrote this piece last year while attempting to emerge from a deep depression. I forced myself to stop by the road and just take a 10-minute walk. Nature really does help—any and all nature! Even a degraded waterway has its magic. Off the back of that small (but to me highly significant) experience, I was able to write one of my first poems in months.
The incident was significant not only because of the unexpected beauty and wonder I found, but also because it meant I finally wanted to get better—that I’d decided to start the process, and it was ok to get well now.
The first steps, though hard, are rewarding.
Here’s the original blog post, now with audio!
