Culture Club LIVE in Maitland NSW

This week, my newest guest poet invited me to a hump day open mic night—about an hour’s drive away. After my initial yeah nah… I thought Why the hell not? I’m glad I went.

The refreshments were fancy pricey, but decent. The crowd was welcoming and ethusiastic, with old hands, published poets and virgin performers all sharing the tiny ‘Stage Cage’ at Maitland’s Family Hotel. The monthly poetry night (first Wednesday) goes by the name of Culture Club Poets Society, but unfortunately, Boy George was nowhere to be seen (there was a harmonica).

Here’s a grainy, muffled video—which I was grateful to acquire at all!—of part of my reading (with, at least, proper subtitles):

.

The two poems in the video are Before I was bad and Words like light. I also read Ars poetica—and decided against reading Arty things have sexy names, after reading the room.

What do you think I should read next time? Please let me know in the comments below!
