Hillshoistia urbanensis

A renga collaboration with the impressive
Katie Persephone Ryder1

Hillshoistia,
a strange yet useful plant,
dominates suburbs.

Leaves by day dry while pegged.
Folded, packéd, safe till dawn.

Some varietals
mimosa completely;
streamlined in a storm.

Rivers washing, lashing wet;
Brightness warming steaming dry.

Rotating in wind,
metal branches creak and squeak.
By night, roost of owls.

Twist, turn, time and again, swirled;
Gather, Perching parliament.
