Technick replay

by Catherin J Pascal Dunk and guest poet Kari McKern*

The greatest crime
of all time
is not to rhyme.

A metaphor
can open the door
to much more.

A simile
(between you and me)
is like … family.

Repetition—
well repetition—
is a tradition.

Personification,
giving life to creation,
stirs imagination.

Hyperbole—
an exaggeration to see—
heightens reality.

Onomatopoeia—
sounds that mirror—
makes imagery clearer.

Alliteration,
with its repetition,
adds to the composition.

Oxymoron,
a contradiction clear,
adds layers to ideas held dear.

Irony,
a twist so sly,
reveals a truth that might pass by.

Rhetoric:
it’s such a swell trick.
It gets the tick.
