Cree-mate

I encompass
those sins
of my fathers;
ashes of lands ravaged,
guilt from their genocides;
I AM sorry, so sorry, and I’m
white, privileged, moneyed;
so I cringe, hesitate to take
space, breathe shallow;
and let my fear
run deep.

“Only when the last tree has been cut down, the last fish been caught, and the last stream poisoned, will we realize we cannot eat money.” ~ Cree proverb
