Names upon a stone

Yesterday three Dunks adventured to the site in West Gosford (near Narara) where in 1874 Henry Kendall was inspired to write a well-known poem. I read ‘Names upon a stone’ aloud while sitting on the natural chair where Kendall & co. carved their names. Was particularly struck by his ‘star-like moss’: simple, unusual, perfect.

Here is a link to Kendall’s original work:

  1. Beautiful, especially the liturgy of leaves, and letters by the limpid spring. And a real sense of the significance of the moment, and that you captured photos of travellers from the future stopping there to mark the past.
